What To Have Ready

None of this is required to start a conversation, but having it to hand makes the first answer a much more accurate one.

• Your income: payslips if you are employed, tax returns if you are not
• Your deposit, and where it came from
• Your existing debts, including credit card limits rather than balances
• What you want to buy, or the price bracket you are looking at
• If you are ADF, your service dates and category

Nothing. We are paid a commission by the lender when a loan settles, so the conversation, the assessment and the application are free, including in the cases where we tell you not to proceed.

You are not committing to anything by making contact, and we do not need you to authorise a credit check to give you a useful first answer. A borrowing figure and a lender shortlist can be worked out from your income, your deposit and your existing debts alone.

If Something Is Missing

Where there is an obvious gap, or a figure that does not look right against the rest of it, we will ask before working from it rather than building a number on a guess.

And if something about your circumstances makes the answer harder than usual, whether that is a short trading history, an ATO debt, a flood-mapped address or acreage, we will say so plainly and tell you what would change it.

If you are working to a deadline, say so in the message. An auction date or a finance clause changes the order things are done in, and it is better known at the start than halfway through.
