Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Mortgage Broker Townsville collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal and credit information. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles and, because we arrange credit, Part IIIA of that Act and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.

What We Collect

To assess a loan and submit it to a lender we generally need your name, contact details, date of birth, residency status, employment and income details, assets and liabilities, living expenses, and identification documents. Where relevant we also collect your credit history, details of the property involved and, for ADF members, service details required by a subsidy scheme.

If you only send an enquiry through this website, we collect what you put in the form, typically your name, phone number, email address and a description of what you need.

How We Use It

We use your information to assess what you can borrow, identify schemes and concessions you may be eligible for, prepare and submit applications to lenders, meet our obligations under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 and anti-money-laundering law, and to contact you about your application. We do not sell your information.

Who We Disclose It To

We disclose your information to lenders and their mortgage insurers when submitting an application, to credit reporting bodies where a credit check is required, to our aggregator or licensee, and to service providers such as valuers, conveyancers and referrers where you have asked us to involve them. We may also disclose information where required by law.

We do not disclose your information to overseas recipients as a matter of course. Some of our software providers may store data on servers located outside Australia, and where that is the case we take reasonable steps to ensure the information is handled consistently with this policy.

Credit Reporting

Where we or a lender obtains a credit report, that report is provided by a credit reporting body. You may contact those bodies directly to request a copy of your credit report, to ask that your information not be used for direct marketing or pre-screening, or to request a ban on access to your file if you believe you have been a victim of fraud.

How We Store It

We hold your information electronically and, where documents are provided in hard copy, physically. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls and secure storage. We retain records for as long as required by law, which for credit assistance is generally at least seven years.

Accessing And Correcting Your Information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date. Contact us on (07) 4463 8031, by email at info@mortgagebrokertownsville.net.au, or through the details on our contact page. We will respond within a reasonable period. If we refuse access or a correction we will tell you why in writing.

Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your information, contact us first and we will investigate and respond.

You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
